what are my options

6 months ago I was terminated from my job for "the totality of my actions." Not one single person contacted me about an investigation. In fact I'm not sure an investigation was even conducted. When I asked for specifcs and to see the results of the investigation I was denied. Now I can't even get a return phone call from perspective employers let alone an interview. I suspect there is inaccurate information being said by my former employer. Should I lawyer up to find out about the investigation and possibly wrongful termination?

Few questions.

First, what state?

If you live in an 'at will' state, you can be hired/fired without notice or reason.

Secondly, why would there be an investigation? Investigation about what? What were you told was/would be investigated? If I hear "totality of my actions" I wouldn't think investigation--I would think "I was late to work or missed work" or "I didn't meet deadlines" (that sort of thing)

Investigation implies wrongdoing. What would that be and what did you think required an investigation?

In many states, they do not have to supply you with a reason at all.
