Assaulted on the job, hurt, then employment terminated

I had posted this a few days ago in the wrong catagory.

I really could use some good advice. I was assaulted at work by a fellow employee and my knee was injured. I was also told that my employment has been terminated after reporting this incident. This employee threw me to the ground and busted my kneecap at a coal mine. I never hit him back or laid a hand on him. I went straight to the office and reported this. I also filed assault charges against this employee with the county sheriffs department. Since i work for a contractor the HR department at the mine we were working at told my bosses that we were no longer allowed on the property. I was bringing home $5,080.00 every 2 weeks after taxes and now i dont have any income. What can i do to be compinsated for this. I cant work because of the injury and this employee cost me alot of money since i lost my job. I would be grateful for any help on how to go about this. This happened in Colorado

Have you considered a workmans comp claim since you were injured at work? My state is a "no fault" stating regarding workmans comp, so even if you were being careless, or even if you started the fight in which you were hurt, workmans comp would still pay. And, if workmans comp admits the claim, you cannot be terminated while the case is ongoing.

Have you talked to an attorney?
