| Terminated and pregnant I was questioned by human resources concerning two employees on light duty getting overtime. I told him I was aware of them getting overtime and told both employees they needed to cut back on their hours. Human resources interviewed both and I was told by HR they admitted to me talking with them about the overtime. A week later, I received a text message from my district manager asking if I would go across the street to a breakfast house. I walked in and HR and my DM were sitting in a booth. I sat down. HR told me that it is always unfortunate when situations like this occur, but the company has made the decision to separate you. I looked at my DM and he told me he was sorry, I had done a good job for him, but that was the decision the company made. They asked if I had any questions. I said no, and left. I went back to my work and cleaned out my stuff. I was told that shortly after I left, the DM came into the store and told the comanager I had resigned my position to further my career with another company. I was in such shock I could not say anything at the time they terminated me. Since then, I have contacted human resources, loss prevention, district manager, and district secretary asking what was the reason for termination. No one will respond to me. My husband call my DM, him not recognizing the number, and told him how upset I was and that I needed closure and wanted to know why I was terminated. My DM told my husband that I knew why I was terminated, that they gave me the reason why when they talked to me. This is not true at all. My DM also said they were given direction from the corporate office not to have any contact with me at all. I am 5 1/2 months pregnant. I was the only female store manager in our district out of 12 stores. I want to know why I was terminated. What can I do? |

| If you didn't know, or weren't told why you were terminated, why, when asked if you had questions, did you say no? Perhaps then would have been an advantageous time to ask? Part of your posting implies that you were told more and you reference the termination in relationship to the overtime situation, implying the two are related. Did they present the two as being causal? If you have questions as to why you were terminated, I would put my concerns in writing and submit them to the main headquarters, since you said everyone else has been "instructed not to" have contact with you. In many states, employers are allowed to hire and fire at will without giving any reason. Is there a reason you are making a parallel between being female and pregnant and being fired? Was there something said to lead you to believe that your firing was related to your gender or the fact you are pregnant? You state you don't have any idea why you were fired, but, unfortunately, you cannot make a case for discrimination or wrongful termination in the absence of proof that was the case. In other words, if you are trying to figure out why you were terminated, and cannot come up with what you feel is a reasonable explanation, you cannot merely assume it is because of your gender. Losing a job can be traumatic. I wish you well. |
