Sorry to hear that. I'd again suggest he get a specific termination letter from the employer and a letter of recommendation from his supervisor for future interviews. That way, he isn't dependent on anyone following through; he has it in writing. Given the sudden "lightning bolt" that left him unemployed, I don't know as I'd rely on any verbal promises.
