Default Do I have a case?

I was written up and given a 30 probation period. I had done everything correctly, on time, and as directed. After 30 period, I was informed (verbally) "oh yeah I didn't know, but now you are on a 90 probation, we will have to get it in writing" (which never happened. Then I started seeing my job posted online. I confronted them about it and was told "we have to cover ourselves" "yeah, I don't know what to say" and "I wouldn't dwell on it". I saw the posting on three different occasions. Then one day out of the blue, while I was still maintaining my job duties as asked, I got a call form a co-worker informing me that they were going through my computer, and trying to erase a email between them and another person applying for my job. The email was accidentally sent to the entire marketing group, and it was basically a closing the deal type letter. Prior to me arriving to work that day, everyone in marketing was given a meeting about the email stating "It is not what it looks like. You shouldn't have seen it. Nick (me) is not in trouble, we do this with every one's job to test the market for your salaries. Do not talk to Nick about this. He doesn't need to know."
People told me. One of my co-workers was interrogated when they thought I knew about it. He was brought to tears during the harassment. And I was fired the next day, with the explanation of "its just not working out". Now I am here wondering if I can pay rent next month.
I have spoken with a friend of mine who is an H.R. expert, and she feels I have a strong case after looking over my paperwork, and speaking with some of her attorney friends.
What do you think? Do I have a case here?

Best bet here is to consult with an employment attorney, in my opinion. Bring as much documentation as you have, including a copy of that email if you can get one. A case would depend on whether or not you live in an "at will" employment state and possibly even your company's standard employment policy. It sounds as if you've already received a fairly good indication based on the actual facts you have there in person .. it already sounds as if a preliminary consultation may be in order. (Hard call to make without knowing all details, but the initial impression here is that you may have some recourse. Keyword: MAY. Again, it depends on your particular location and your particular situation.) Your HR friend is correct: that type of behaviour and reason stated certainly isn't standard in any professional place of business. In my opinion, it's definitely worth a telephone call to an attorney.
Good luck.

What about that HR friend you mentioned? Either she or her attorney acquaintences may have professional referrals available. A reputable employment attorney in good standing with the Bar Association shouldn't be that difficult to find in your area. There is, of course www.legalmatch.com.
