Default Fired for taking kids to doc

Is it right that a company can fire you or hold aginst "give points twards termination" the fact that you need to take your kids to the doctor or miss a few hours to pick up your sick child from school and what about if yourself has some medical problems nothing more serious that just a couple doc visits it has not happined yet but a few co workers are up to there last point and i am about half way there

i do not beleave it is right for them to do also is staying home with a sick child leagle say the day after a doc visit what all is right and not right what would the leagle out come become if taken to court??? has not happined yet but would like to know before hand
