Recently became guardian for parent who has life estate in trashed home. Parent has been relocated to safe, healthy, environment of senior home, but wishes to also 'live' in home with life estate. Is agreement still binding with guardianship? Ward's SS income will not support utilities from both facilities.
What to do? |

Does this parent have sufficient funds to clean up and repair original home? And if the answer is yes, is this parent capable of living by themselves? If yes, hire the clean up and repair, and let them live at home.
If this parent needs assistance with living necessities (shopping, personal care, etc), this should be explained to her, and she should be advised to stay in the senior home. If the courts have given you guardianship, they must have done so because they felt your parent no longer was capable of taking care of themselves. That gives you the right to make the decisions for your parents care and living arrangements. |
