The promissary note predates the wedding and I am certain, does not include wording to allow the creditor to garnish, seize, or take possession of your wife's assets. However, they may be able to attach to YOUR JOINT assets ( property or money obtained during the course of the marriage, since it is, in fact, half yours).
A prenuptial agreement may help keep your assets clearly separate----clearly separate from both you AND the creditor.
