Police harassment/ Abuse of Power?
quick scenario to the group: i am a barbershop owner and operate in toledo, ohio. i do not allow smoking in my shop but do allow clients and employees to stand under the large awning outside of my shop to smoke. Saturday, 4 squad cars with 5 cops surrounded 2 of my employees and 3 customers. their reasoning was that "someone" placed an anonymous call that guys were selling drugs out front. when no drugs were found due to the fact that there were none - one of the officers changed the reason to "loitering"... not only is this the second time that this has happened with the same excuse but they began searching my employees and clients, running checks, and issuing citatations..
i was told to stay in the shop but my screen door was propped open. when i began questioning the officers about the validity of their reason(s) and told them that they are running off customers of my business - one officer UNpropped my screen door, told me to mind my business and shut it in my face. by not knowing my rights and what i could and could not do or say - i did not say anything else in order to avoid going to jail for something stupid.
is this legal or is this harrassment??
