Wrongful Death (Park Rangers shoot bears not people)

My daughters father was having a domestic dispute with his current girlfriend at a campground at Crater Lake, Oregon. Someone called 911. When the Park Rangers arrived at their trailer, he opened the front door and was shot immediately. He was shot once in the head and once in the chest. Dead instantly. He was not armed nor does he have any criminal history to speak of. We were not notified of his death for 7 months. Our Child Support Caseworker could not understand why she was not notified for 7 months that he was deceased. Within 4 weeks of his death, the Federal Parks Service performed 2 inside investigations and found the Park Rangers innocent of all wrong doing. I feel my daughter deserves, at the least, the $28,000.00 in child support arrears she will never see.

Where are you getting the $28k figure?

(1) Is that the child support your ex would have paid in that 7 month period if he were alive?

or

(2) Did your ex owe you $28k in child support at the time of his death?

If it's (2), then you may be able to get something from your ex's estate, assuming there is anything of value. For $28k, it's worth seeing an attorney.
