I am an avid tennis player. I pay a monthly membership fee to use private courts where I live. While playing tennis a couple of days ago I slipped on what appeared to be a type of oil on a portion of the court.
I reported the incident and found out that a maintenance man had spilled the substance but did not properly clean it up or report it. I am now in pain and find it hard to compete and had to cancel several upcoming tournaments. What can I do? ![]() |

Stephen,
The owner may be liable if he/she/it caused the oil to be spilled, knew about the spill and did nothing about it, and/or the owner should have known (this is a "reasonable" standard. Do you know how long after the employee spilled the oil that you slipped? Time will be important to determine whether the tennis club acted reasonably or had time to inspect the premises. Keep all medical bills. It will also be important to find out who owns the tennis club. You can usually find out info at a county tax assessors office and then do a corporate or fictitious business name search. Good luck with your injury and I hope your recovery is a quick one. |
