Is it possible?

I am trying to help a significant other. I am a citizen of the USA. My significant other came thru Mexico without any legal permission. Is it possible for an immigrant to obtain legal status in the United States, if his/her passport was never stamped? I live in the state of Florida; I have contacted several lawyers, yet I have not received possitive feedback. Does it vary from state to state? I am real confused, please help me! I am really worry! I will appreciate any information you can provide me with.
