A good friend of mine reciently moved out of a home that was unfit to live in. The roof leaked it was infested by snakes and was so old and drafty she could hardly keep it heated. The landlord wouldnt fix anything during the 2 years she had to live there. She has since moved out with her children to a better home thank god,but now the landlord is sueing her for quiet a bit of money. He has done alot of work to the home since she moved out, such as put a new roof on and also a new porch because the old ones were falling apart. Does she have a chance at all of defending heself in court with only people to testify on her behalf as to the conditions of the home? She has no pictures to support her claim that she moved out because the living conditions of the home.

Sounds like all your friend can do is try. Letters to landlord and pictures are what the judge is probably expecting to see. Witnesses are okay but of course not the preferred type of evidence.
Always take pictures before you move in, when you move out and anytime in between when problems arise. Have her take pictures of her new place ASAP just in case new landlord sues down the road. |
