Breaking Lease

I was originally given a lease as my copy of the lease with the wrong date and was signed. Neither the manager of the apartment complex or I noticed it. I noticed it the day I was overlooking it because of the following problems: my boyfriend got assaulted at gun point outside of my apartment and my roof had been leaking and was mentioned to the manager, its been over a month and still not fixed. Also when I went to go mention that I was going to break the lease they said it was fine but they changed their copy of the lease and forged my signature for the new copy. I have my copy of the lease and the mananger said she does not anything and she was here for that, she said I need to call her supervisor for that. She gave me her supervisor number and i is the wrong number. What can I do? I do not want to pay all these fees for breaking a lease that that they made a mistake on from the begginning. In my copy of the contract the contract was up March 2009 they changed their copy to March 2010 with my forged signature.

It doesn't matter if the lease had the wrong date on it. You signed it. That isn't grounds for terminating a lease. However, the other problems you are encountering with repairs, etc. MAY be grounds for termination of the lease.

I would go to your local magistrates court and ask them how to proceed. Proving they forged a copy of a new lease is hard to do and honestly is hard to believe they would risk their entire business, and going to jail for fraud for the income from one apartment.
