Anything My Friend can do about this: pay or quit

Just got a call from a friend who got a 5 day pay or quit notice. He is 2 weeks behind on his rent so needless to say we seen this coming. The issue arises with the fact that he is an independent contractor, and due to the people he is working with, his only paycheck comes at the end of the month, after the PoQ notice has long since caused him to move out. Is there anything he can do, or does he just have to quit and go?

Remember that a Pay or Quit notice does not mean that you have to move out. In most states your landlord would have to begin eviction proceedings to physically remove you. This process can take months. Find out if this is true in your state and then your friend can save up enough to relocate or work something out with current landlord.

Does your friend have any sources of credit he can draw upon? Assuming he does have receivables through his work as an independent contractor, this may the easiest and least disruptive action for all involved.
