residential lease problem

I signed a lease in May of 2005 with one other person for the duration of a year. There was also a third person living in the apartment, an adult, who was not on the lease. This is against the lease agreement. Due to various problems, the roommate has forced me and the other roommate out of the apartment. I unsuccessfully tried to find another person to fulfill my side of the lease. I asked the roommate still living there to sign me off of the lease. I also offered to break the lease and pay the whole fee myself. This way all the roommate would have to do is find a new apartment. This person would incur no cost. The leasing apartments told me that to break the lease they would need the roommate to sign a notice to vacate. They refuse to do this. I need options!! I refuse to sit here and pay rent at two apartments as I am essentially paying for this roommate to live here by themself. And I refuse to be tied to this obligation when I have not lived in the apartment for months. Can anyone help me?

Take your roomate to small claims court for all costs that you have incurred.
