I'm trying to find info on child abandoment, my future exdaughter-in-law left my grandchild with my son now for 3 weeks she has not called or come by to see child. They are in process of divorce and agreed upon each having her 1 week at a time ,she called my son to ask if she could stay a couple of days more, til she moved, that has been 3 weeks ago. She is only maybe 2 miles from her daughter, she is involed with someone who has a long record and has been in and out of jail, we believe when she was a co at jail they met. My question is what are the chances of my son getting ful,l custody because of her life changes and style, she can't keep a job and has borrowed food from my son to feed child, there are too many things to go into about situation, just was wanting to know about custody issue. thank you very much for your help.

When the custody/visitation issue comes up during divorce proceedings the judge will take all factors into consideration.
These factors will most likely include the fact that she left her child for at least 3 weeks when it was only suppose to be one, her lifestyle, who she associates herself with, the fact that she is unemployed and monetarily unable to care for the child etc. The judge will also look at your son's lifestyle. He will want to show that he is employed and can monetarily support the child, that while he is at work he has a plan regarding who will care for the child, etc. If you are worried about your grandchild also seek supervised visitation if the mother is granted visitation. This way you will know that your grandchild is safe when not with your son. ![]() |
