Autism law and education
Hello. My daughter is 6, she has four year delay, making her 2. She was kept out of this school because she wears pull ups still. Two years they kept her out, even though she already had an i.e.p. in place. Then when they didnt have a choice anymore, they tried to make her go to first grade and force me to make her wear underware. Id love for her to be potty trained, but she wont do it, and now even refuses. Its not like i dont want her to use the potty. Its just not her time, and with autism you cant force it. they think differently and I had to go to Dr.s to get letters on file for her iep and told the autism center. They made their reccommendations nicely, but told me, they are mandated reporters, they need to do what i requested or they would report it. I even had to have an advocate get involved! My daughter only goes to school 4 hours. shes in a big classroom and she gets anxious. I am moving from Missouri back to Michigan, just so that she can aquire a structured education that she is entitled too by law. I keep pressing here, but they deny her. I even got denied by the state program called desi here, just cause her iq is too high. She has a formal diagnosis of Autism. From several insitutions. Even an Mri and a blood panel conducted, shes seen pediatric neuroligists, ear specialists, a pediatrician, a family doctor, a nurse practitioner. Name it, shes been thru it. How can they deny her anything? the american disabilites act states that they have to comply with anything necessary for her to go to school and to be comfortable. She dont get anything but speech therapy even.
