Father was adopted trying to find records

My father was adopted when he was a baby. I would like to find out what my background is. Can anyone please help me by telling me if there is a way to get the papers.

It depends on a lot of things, such as the agency handling the adoption ( social services, private adoption, private agency, or attorney) location of the adoption ( state ), the year of the adoption--many years ago, accurate records were not kept and those that were are sealed. Another issue--is your father still alive? How does he feel about finding out this information? It is one thing to attempt to find out this information about yourself, and it is another thing entirely to attempt to get this information about a third party.
