Default grandma/mom

hi i am asking a question that has been asked many times before but no answers,i have had legal custody of my grandson for two years now he was only 8 months old when i got him,his mother wasnt a good one to say the least but she hasnt made a move or done anything for this baby at no time.me and my companion raise him,he he knows him as dad and he calls me mom cause he doesnt know his real mom,he has been around her but he doesnt know her at all,so my question is this are they a time limit when they can loose their rights as parents.

Actually, this question has been answered countless times in this forum.

Just because you have the child doesn't make him legally yours.

Unless you go to court and have the parental rights terminated he still legally belongs to them.

Obviously, the more time that goes by, the more grounds you may have for termination of their rights. But, no, there is no time limit for them to become involved or else automatically lose the child.
