Dead Beat Moms
I have been married to my husband for 10 years and he had two daughters from a previous marriage. They are now 15 and 16. Their biological mom lives about 5 hours away and never sees them. They have wanted me to adopt them for years now and she won't let me, but yet she doesn't have anything to do with them. She only contacts them once a year. She never buys them anything. She was suppose to pay child support, but hasn't in 10 years! The girls don't want anything to do with her.
The girls are asking me to adopt them again. I have friends that have told me we could get her for abandonment and all of her parental rights would drop. My husband wants to get a paper written up incase something was to happen to him the girls would stay with me. What would we have to do to get her for abandonment and would she have any say so if I was to adopt the girls?
