My mother lives in Ohio and I live in Texas. She had a very bad back injury 2 years ago and is on several medications (Oxycontin, Vicatin, Pervacet, etc.). Myself and several others believe that she has a problem, but I can't get her in to rehab unless she wants to go and her doctor won't talk to me due to the privacy laws; she doesn't think she has a problem and I don't know how else to help. How can I go about getting a Medical Power of Attorney, I don't even know if that is what I need here, in order to see her medical records, be allowed to know what medications she is taking, have her medications randomly counted, and to have a say in what she can take(as right now she is taking Oxycontin, and I do not want her on that). I am desperate and I fear for my mom's well-being and for her life. Some one please help!!!!!!!

I don't know if the POA will help you in this situation. They usually come into play if the individual is unconcious or incapacitated in someway. I don't know if addiction is considered incapacitated. You will want to consult an attorney.
Also, I believe that your mother would have to willingly sign the POA. If she is not willing to do so you may have a problem. ![]() |
