Post inheritance

My mother passed in May of 2009 and my sister was the administrator of parents will. I have not received anything on my parents will. I have tried the courthouse in Arkansas and also contacted my sisters lawyer, all he said was there was nothing left. I informed him that I didn't believe that and asked him for proof of how my sister spent my parents money. Recently I learned through the bank of my sister that she has a 100,000 cd that she got just before my mother passed. I am sure it had to do with some property my parents had, i.e. 20 acres. I don't have a lot of money but would be willing to give a percentage of what I received to a lawyer. I am sure there is quite a bit of money left and my sister is hiding it. Is there anyone who can help. My parents had LTC insurance and everything was paid for, they had property of about 450,000 which included the house that I did'nt even know was sold. They were in nursing home about 5yrs, and I am sure it was paid for by at least 50%.

The will should be on file and part of the public record. Were you there for a reading of the will? Are yu aware of what was contained therein? It may be possible that your parents did not leave you anything in the will. Just because they had money, doesn't necessarily mean that you were entitled to receive any.

If the 100,000 CD transaction took place before their deaths, then that would not be part of probate if it was given to your sister while they were alive.

Bottom line: Your sister, as adminstrator of the will, MUST account to the court for anything she disposes of, gives away, keeps, etc. Their telling you there is "nothing left" (not sure those are the words they used) means it would appear as though the will was executed according to your parents wishes and nothing was left for you.

Is that a possibility? Keep in mind as I stated above, simply because you are a child of theirs and they had money when they died does not mean that they indicated in their will that it be left to you.

Go to the courthouse. Ask to see a copy of the will on file. Read what it says. Was anything left to you in the will?
