Question Underminded...

My Sister was chosen as our spokesperson regarding a law suit inolving the negligence bestowed upon my mother in a nursinng home. During mediation my Sister decided to take the cash settlement. This was fine, however, my Sister took it upon herself to tell the Lawyers to include her daughter as one of the reciepients of the cash settlement. Therefore instead of only my mothers children recieving the settlement, it is now the children and my Sister's daughter ! Prior to my Sister taking it upon herself to slip her daughter in, the attorney asked her if this was OK with the rest of us, She lied and said yes ! How can we stop her daughter from recieving a part of the settlement ? By contesting this act will it freeze up the entire settlement or just the portion being allotted to my Sisters daughter ?

Why didn't your mother receive the settlement? Is she deceased? Is the settlement part of her estate that went through probate? Also, define "chosen spokesperson"--did you give her power of attorney to act on your behalf, or was it just a written or verbal agreement to represent you? Did you go to court? How is it no one knew what was happening and no one knew the daughter was added? Did no one else appear in court? Contesting it will stop any money from being dispersed.
