An employee who worked in the same office but is from a different division and we had nothing to do with each other made sexual comments about women and racial comments that made me uncomfortable but I never reported him. He began to slander me to other employees, and to my superiors who are in Los Angeles and we are based in San Diego. By this time i did not feel comfortable in my work environment and felt my reputation was being ruined. I went to my manager, but nothing was done. I went over him and nothing was done by the owners. This went on for about two years. I let them know on several occasions. Finally, after trying for two years, he really tried to get an outburst out of me. The then threatened me saying "you just don't know what going to happen to you, you just don't know. This is when i went to HR. I let them know everything. She said she would report it and something would be done about it. That my work environment being safe and a good one was her main concern. I have been miserable there so long...indirect comments daily from this man and his supervisor. Always trying to get a rise....watching me....evesdropping...always just trying to get me on something. I didn't realize the emotional hold it had gotten of me. I didn't want to admit that he got to me. But hate to admit it, he really did get to me. He even began to bring my personal life into it, telling people i fight with my manager, who is my husband all the time. and did nothing for him. I just sat there and made him do my job. He had no support from me, and he made it out to seem like he was just concerned.
Any, I'm venting, sorry....I went to HR on a Wed. I was told to take a few days off by my boss, to let things cool. That Friday, I was complaining to my boss and he suggested I quit. I said I didn't know and would talk to my husband, who is my manager about it. He said, he will talk to him. That was last I heard from him. I went to work Monday and Tuesday. Tuesday morning my boss calls me telling me that I said I wanted to quit, that he had let them know I quit. I said I did not want to quit. I let him know I never said I quit. My manager called and let him know as well, that he wanted me to stay as well. He was told he would see what he could do. Later that same day, he and his partner came to our office to talk to my manager. When I got home my boss called to let me know I had quit, and nothing could be done about it. That was the last conversation I had with anyone from my company. That was all I was told. |

I wasn't, but I think they thought I might since i was so upset. I was crying the whole time on the phone with her. And knowing our history of not really liking each other. I also let her know about the comments he made to the mexican workers. He would call them "beaners". That they live in beaner vista, not Chula Vista...Tell them, if you pay a mexican $1000 he'll jump off the Coronado Bridge. My husband is Mexican.
He really made a lot of stupid, offensive comments and I let her know about them all. I was also telling her how bad he was making it for me that I couldnt work with him anymore. I said i cant go back there, I know hes up to something..trying to get me in trouble some how and that I always have to watch my back. Also, I let my managers know about how I felt, more than once and they did nothing. I dont know if they were worried about that as well. |

I think it is time for you to speak with an attorney regarding your rights. If you were fired because you were reporting this gentleman than you will need to preserve your rights. Employment discrimination cases are difficult to prove but an attorney can advise you as to whether or not they think you have a case. At any rate an attorney might be able to write a letter on your behalf any your former employer may offer you some sort of deal to keep quiet and go away.
