Angry Want an opinion

I just need an opinion about what happened to me.
I filled out an application to work on this place on July 2007. This person, I’m going to called her Mrs. D, called me for an interview. I went to that interview on August 9, 2007 and everything was fine. She called me two weeks later and told me that I was going to start the next week that someone else was going to call me to tell me the day I was going to start and to tell me the salary. Then she asked me if I have any question and I asked her if she have another position in another school and she said no, and I just said that’s ok I can work in that one and she hanged off. I waited and waited two more weeks and no one called me. Then I called her and she said that she couldn’t find my application that she was going to get it. I kept calling her every week for three weeks and every time was a different excuse until the last time that she told me, OK come Friday that I’m going to give you the uniform so you can start Monday. When I went there she sent me to other office to sign the papers for the criminal background check, then they sent me back to her office. She made me read a book and take a test that I know I answered right because I used the book and went to a mandatory class a week before. Then another person interviewed me again because Mrs. D was too busy with her boss then she sent me home AGAIN and told me that Mrs. D was going to call me. Yeah Right. I called her a week later and asked her she said that she sent my application to the main office that she was waiting for them, I called the main office and they said that she was the one that make the decision about hiring people on her department. I was feeling like a ping-pong ball after “she have it you have it” game”. I needed to start working so next they I went to see what was going on, I went to the main office and the receptionist called her, not from her desk instead she went to the office next to her and I overheard that she said to Mrs. D “but she’s going to keep asking and calling” too bad that were the only worlds I heard. Then the receptionist told me that she hired all the people that she needed that she was going to keep my application for futures openings. Haaah. Well, I keep checking on their website and they still hiring. I feel she lied to me and keep playing this game with me and I really don’t know why. I never had a problem with justice in my life, never had a problem in my others jobs and I don’t think it was because I’m Puerto Rican because she mostly hire Hispanic people, so I don’t understand why she did this to me. What do you think?

Your legal question is why did she do this to you?

How could anyone, besides HER actuallly know the answer to this?

If you are asking if she did something wrong legally, the answer is no.

If this company conducts business in the manner in which you have described it, you dodged a bullet. In all likelihood, the company isn't managed any better than its personnel department. If it's that much anguish just getting hired, imagine how difficult it is to actually WORK there.

People get turned down for jobs every day. Find another.

In a nutshell? I think you're better off not working for such an unprofessional (not to mention disorganized) employer. If you live in an "at will" employment state, the employer can "hire and fire" at will..no reason given for either one, as long as the reasons are legal (non discriminatory, for one.) I'm not aware of any current employment law (anywhere) which requires an employer even respond to your application, even though professional ethics usually require otherwise. It's probably VERY likely they've already hired someone, but simply not gotten around to updating their web site ... and someone doesn't have either the nerve or professionalism to say so. Sounds like a pretty 'sloppy' organization .. and it happens every day.

If you're getting that kind of confusion and "shell-game" over your hiring, think a little bit ahead. Can you be comfortable you'd even be paid on time? What kind of employment security would you have? How can you do your job well when they don't even know who's currently working there? Doesn't sound like a place I'd even consider applying to, based on the information you've posted. I also don't see any legal outlet available, if that's what you're asking. Personally, I think you're better off looking for another employer who won't treat you so casually once you're hired.

Good luck in the job search.

Smile Thanks

Thanks for your responds and wishes. I can't really imagine how it is to actually work there. Worst of all is that it is the school district where my children go to school. Well Thank you and good luck to everyone here.
