Default non-compete clause

My employer is just now telling me to sign a No Compete clause, after 8 years of working in sales. My concern is the clause if far too reaching. It states I will not contact any company, supplier or client that we have done business with for 1 yr after termination. They also want me to call and ask permission if I want to contact a client, even if I am selling something completely out of the realm of what I currently sell. To me this is geographically far too reaching as well as it restricts me from selling anything to an old client unless I ask permission.
What does everyone think. I am feeling the pressure to sign today!

Without reading the agreement, no one can responsibily give any advice. You should have a local attorney review the agreement.
