Exclamation want2be in military.. ex masochist

i used to be a masochist some scars are .25 in wide but softened up now... tried to apply to army before and got shot down for it, although 4.5-5 years ago, i fear it could get in the way now. havent cut since 8 years ago.. a common problem amongst teens i was simply STUPID. i got a 74 on the asvab and prolly can get higher. i was wonderin now in a different age group and more stable mentally (w/ kids tho), how can i get in?... oh and i only have a ged, but i can go back for the diploma, and get it, in like a half year maybe!!!i want a military job of some sort for the honor and pay/benefits.

I admire your courage in wanting to join the military. And, I am not sure that your question is a legal question or an employment one. I don't know the reason they gave you before for denying your offer. But, I don't believe that the scars are a problem in terms of enlisting in the military. But, I suspect that the emotional/mental reasons FOR THE scars is what may be concerning the military. "Cutting" is an outward sign, or exhibit of intense emotional trauma or mental angst. My opinon is that the military cannot assume liability for arming someone with these types of issues with a gun and send them into combat. This doesn't mean that you wouldn't make a fine soldier, it means, simply that the military is unwilling to assume that risk. And I am not certain that five years is much time at all when considering a significant emotional issue such as the one you have described.

I wish you luck in whatever venture you choose.
