Default can I reset divorse hearing?

I am due to attend my divorce hearing for the second time. My wife filed and I replied with the help of a family friend. We are going for an uncontested divorce. My wife has the state paying for the divorce. I didn't hear anything or receive any paperwork on any further actions on her part as to what happens next after I replied to her serving me with papers. I replied(did my part). Next thing I know she makes a comment to me over the phone saying don't be late tomorrow for our hearing. I freaked and wasn't aware of any hearing. Again I received no paperwork from the courts or her. I showed up and she didn't because she didn't answer when the judge called out our names. The court assistant sitting next to judge said hearing was dropped because my wife didn't show. Today I spoke with my wife and she told me she reset the hearing which is in two days on the 26th of January. I haven't had enough time to hire a lawyer because this all has happened without any notice from courts or wife. How can a spouse file for divorce and set a hearing and the courts don't even notify you. My wife told me her reset paperwork with reset date was to be given to me by her but she forgot. I could of lost everything as well as my custody of our children. How can this happen? What if my wife never told me anything? Can I reset hearing when I go in two days because of the way this divorce is happening? I need more time to hire a lawyer. There must be something I can do because I don't want to be taken advantage of when I go in two days. How do I request more time if I'm able? I'm worried!! Alot at stake here. Please help with advise. Thank You.

Your best resource in this situation is the courthouse. Find out from them how to continue the date. Tell them you were never properly served with the paperwork and have been unable to retain counsel. If you are unable to do this talk to the judge when your hearing begins. Explain your situation and let him/her know that you are in the process of hiring an attorney.
