seeking help

hello,
i am writing because i am really troubled. first let me start by saying i know nothing of the types of divorce. yet i find myself in the midst of a career/ ending storm. my former spose filed for and got a limited divorce from menov07. believing that this was it i applied to the court and showed the document and applied for another license to be married dec 07. i got married in feb 08 and after applying for benefits for new spouse i found that i had committed a crime. i immediately began the steps to remedy this nevere ending nightmare. yet, after talking with the states attorney my new spouse tells me that her lawyer is going to seek legal action against me for this blunder. i am a law enforcement officer and have been told that i should have known better. i know very little of divorce and when presented the documents the clerk made no mention that i was violating the law. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
