Default Something does'nt smell right!HELP!!!!!!

I need to know if this case sounds right or if I'm right, that it stinks! Let me start from the biginning. This is a long story. My mother-in-law after 43 years of marriage wants a divorce. Her husband had affairs all the time of thier marriage. He is a mean man that controlled his whole family. He is very verbably abussive and now he has choaked her and has told her he will kill her. They have 3 children and 6 grandchildren. They reside in a very small country town and own several acres of land+house w/shop and storage buildings. They have lived in this town at the begining of thier marrage and the last 5 yrs. He has moved in with his currant girlfriend who is also married. The divorce process is over as of monday. She was awarded nothing! She testified for the total time of 5 to 6 hours and he was'nt on the stand for no more then 50 minutes. He recieved an inheritance about 4 yrs ago from his mothers death. He never told the family how much it was. He made all his deposits into a joint checking acct.
He was awarded everything even her car she is driving now and has 45 days to vacate the house. She even has to give him the gifts he gave to her all these years. The judge and his lawyer is the same judge and lawyer in his inheritance case and now his divorce case. Can the judge over see this divorce? I was in court on monday. It was painfull to witness what she went through that day. MY GOD! The judge was falling asleep at her desk while he was on the stand but wide awake when she was. At the beginning of this trial her lawyer told her to take 1/2 the money out of thier joint acct. before he does. The judge told her to put the money back into thier acct. I cant believe this is happening. During the process he hasn't followed any rules. He has touched her broke into the house, takes whatever he wants and sales it, been late on payments etc. She has called the local police and they say thiers nothing they can do cause when they get to the property he is gone. She needs help and I don't know where to start. HELP
