Service Contract Question

I purchased my car in 2006, along with a service contract. Today, my security system malfunctioned so I called the administrative number for the service contract, and they told me that the contract was declined and I had to contact my dealer to find out why. I looked up the dealership I bought the car from and found out that they were bought out by another local dealer, who claims that since they are not the original dealership that sold me my car, they do not have to honor the service contract on it... I was never informed in writing or otherwise that the dealer had been bought out and certainly not that it would nullify my service contract, which should have 18 months or 30000 miles remaining on it. Do I have any recourse in this situation?

Companies get bought and sold all of the time. If your contract doesn't stipulate that the contract becomes void in the event of a buy out ( how bizarre) then your contract should be valid.

The question then becomes which is cheaper--an attorney, or getting the car repaired yourself?
