Ticketed for shoplifting. Court date on ticket: Fri, 4/24. Help on what to expect.

Long story short, sparing the boring details:

Got a ticket for shoplifting.

Court date on the ticket is this Friday.

I literally have no idea what to expect. I'm a grown man, but I've never been in court, and I don't worry about legal proceedings because I've always walked a relatively straight line.

Any help, insight, or guidance would be appreciated.

There are many programs for people accused of a shoplifting crime available in the various criminal courts and with criminal prosecutors that can be done in lieu of having a criminal case in the court, especially if it is a first time arrest. Even people who have had prior arrests have been able to take advantage of these programs with the help of an experienced criminal lawyer

Shoplifting can be a serious offense especially if you are an older person and not a young person who happened to make a mistake. The best thing to do is hire an attorney who can help you through the process and maybe work out a program or some other kind of lesser offense with the prosecutor. This way you would not have some type of serious charge on your record forever.
