Default Athlete Slandered By Coach

My son decided to quit the high school wrestling team. The coach throughout
the season would offer no encouragement win or loose. My son was an above average wrestler. Win or loose he get a hand shake walking over to his opponents coach but his coach would always turn his head and walk the opposite direction. When he lost the coach would call him a quiter, tell him he did not try that he gave up. He got tired of this treatment so he turned in his uniform. My son has friends still in the wrestling class during school hours. the coach continues to make statements about my son to the class. He has stated to the class that my son is quiter and is surprised that he can do anything. Their are other statements ( to many too list). This is defamation of charactor by way of slader. We have been in and talked with the athletic director. He seems to be concerned but there has been no changes in the coach and his daily sladering of my son. The athletic director did make a statement that he backs his coach's 100 %. My son now is in fear of this man in school. What would be the next course of action for us to protect our son and allow him to go to school without feeling threatened by this coach? Please Someone Respond!!!!!!! txparent

I would threaten the school board to take action. As for a lawsuit against the coach you would have to prove that people actually believe the garbage that the coach is stating. If people start to believe it and your son's reputation is damaged then go for it. If nobody believes this crazy coach then you would not fulfill all requirements.
