Question clearing my record

13 yrs.ago I plead guilty to"c.p.w.l."-carrying a pistol w/o a licence in the Dist.Of Col.,I received 2 yrs. probation, and a small fine since it was my first charge ever in my life.My probation was terminated 6 mos.early.My wife and I have raised 2 wonderful sons who are following in my foot steps and are proudly serving in a forward area for their country.I now live 200 mi.away in a rural area where hunting is a way of life.I have hunted since the age of 12,I am now 50 yrs.old, and I would love to return to a life that I once knew and loved, where do I start to have my record expunged,or apply for a pardon? How long do I have to keep paying all this time for a stupid mistake that was all my fault and no one els'es.So many opportunit'ies have been lost because of it,just starting to get tired.

Contact the prosecutors office in the jurisdiction in which the infraction took place. Most solicitors offices have web sites and on them, a series of links. One of them will probably be "expungements". Click on the link for information, including which offenses can be expunged and how to go about doing so. It usually involves paperwork and submitting a fee of a few hundred bucks ( my jurisdiction, two hundred dollars, but some are more).

A lot of attorneys advertise heavily that they can have your record expunged and people often pay the sizable fee, considering the fee worth it. However, unless your case is particularly intricate (which it does not appear to be) it should be a simple matter for you to handle it yourself. It is a simple matter for attorney's to do it for you, which is precisely why it is advertised so much!!

Good luck.
