Me and my friend were messing around on this sweepstakes site for smokers. We entered in false information to see if it actually worked. It said it registered, but I checked and the site said that if we entered in false information it might be breaking a law. Therefore, I called the site to try to cancel the info. However, the person said that I was not on the mailing list. I gave her the name we entered and she did not believe that was my name. Am I gonna traced through my cell or something? Did we do something bad?

No I am of age. There is a site called PrizeRebels where you do surveys for points, and this survey was on the site. So we wanted to see if the site and survey worked. We entered bogus information. Is that bad? For example, I did not use my real name, we just made up names and numbers. We put in a random address.

I am not sure I understand the problem.
I routinely use Jayne Dough when I have to register to use web sites---ones where I am not ordering anything. So, when I get SPAM mail from sites to Ms. Dough, I know which sites have sold my personal identifying information. There is no law that requires you to use your own name, or other identifying information. Now, if you are ordering something, using a credit card, etc. Obviously, you must identify yourself. But, I routinely sign my name as something other than it is on web sites where my name is irrelevant and I don't feel like divulging that in order to use their site for whatever reason. Unless I misunderstand your question, there is nothing illegal about what you did. |
