Default probation

My son is on two years 410 first offenders probation in Illinois. He has been compliant for seven months. He has been accepted at a college in Iowa for the fall semester and also been offered employment. He does not have relatives in Iowa, he will be residing with his girlfriend who is a resident of the state. According to his probation officer, the process of transferring his supervision will be lengthy and not guaranteed. Does anyone know of any other alternatives? Have the courts been known to be diligent about verifying the whereabouts of offenders even when they are compliant?

I am not sure what you are asking. Unfortunately, the commission of a crime, at times, results in inconvenience. I hope your posting isn't suggesting you are considering skipping going through the steps of transferring supervision and all that entails. That would be a mistake that could have far reaching ramifications for the rest of his life.

Don't sacrifice the permanent on the altar of the immediate. Be inconvenienced now---and not sorry later.

Good luck.

You are right. We are looking at getting a temporary travel permit. Thanks for the advice.
