Harsh Sentencing

Hello--I've been asked my a close friend for help. He's incarcerated for 15 years due to being convicted as a habitual offender. There is a catch to the situation and here it is:

Can a judge change a vacate which is an invalid conviction and then make it valid again without due process? Basically the judge found him to be not guilty because of the invalid conviction, then she found him guilty without any due process two weeks later. Her reason for changing the decision was because she was feeling ill.

If the early conviction was vacated, he would have served two years max, but because of this, he is serving 15 years. Matt has been sent to Philadelphia, but is seeking pro bono help for this mess. As a close friend to Matt, I am seeking anyone's help to resolve this mess. KEY NOTE HERE: His attorney never filed an appeal! He simple wrote Matt off once he was convicted. Another misrepresentation.
