fugitive~from~justice?
Last year, I took several items to UPS to package and ship for me: a medieval dagger, a shot glass, an ashtray, and a necklace for my daughter's birthday, with some Mardi Gras beads thrown in for my grandchildren. Just prior to the arrival of the package, my son-in-law forcefully committed my daughter to a mental hospital, intercepted the package, called the police and told them it was a "suspicious package." A search of the package revealed approximately 400 mg. of methamphetamine. (I live in Colorado, my daughter in Kentucky.) I was subsequently arrested in Colorado as a "fugitive from justice" and one month later extradited to Kentucky. How could I have been a fugitive from justice, having never been to Kentucky or charged with a crime there, nor having fled prosecution from Kentucky?? Also, if I did not pack the box, how can the drugs be attributed to me? (Do drug dealers/users take their illicit drugs to the UPS man to pack for them?) After five months, I was finally OR'd out of the Kentucky jail with a court date set for October 2006. How do I prove I did not do this? Also, shouldn't this case be in Federal Court? The drugs having been sent through the mail and across state lines? How do I get out of this mess? What is going to happen to me?
