question about warrants
Police came looking for my girlfriend with warrants for her arrest .I ask the charges he said fraud of the elderly and then said multiple charges.I am unable to see the warrants on lee county sheriff website were they usually have active warrants. She needs to know the charges so she can arrange to hire counsel and turn herself in.I believe this is about her using her grandmothers credit card sometime ago.Her grandmother didnt press charges but i think her aunt had the bank or maybe the state Press them.Is there a way she can find out what her charges actually are before she turns herself in?I should mention she wasnt here when they came and i have had no contact as of yet with her. This is in lee county florida.
Thank you in advance for any advice. We have a newborn that i am taking care of by myself so i need to know what she is charged with exactly. |

This is a very state specific question and since I do not practice in Florida I may not be able to help much. The best that I can do is offer two points:
One, there is a statewide Florida warrant database. I found it at FDLE Public Access System | Wanted Persons Search If you past that into your Google search it should lead you there. It may be better than the county site you looked at. Second, regardless of whether your partner knows exactly what charges are outstanding, there is no reason to wait before consulting a Florida attorney competent with criminal matters. Sure, it would be "nice to know" as soon as possible - I can only imagine the stress of not knowing - but a competent attorney can quickly get to the bottom of that and find out the precise charges. Good luck to you and your family. |

I too cannot stress enough that she needs to turn herself in immediately. While I sympathize with your situation having a child, it really has no bearing on her being told the charges against her. ANY criminal attorney can represent her. The more time that goes by the worse it will be. AND if she happens to get stopped for a speeding ticket or parking violation, she can be arrested on the spot. Being hauled away from work in handcuffs wouldn't exactly be a barrel of monkeys.
It is probably misdemeanor charges---hardly something you have to 'make arrangements' to turn yourself in over. Show up, be fingerprinted, arraigned before a judge, post bond (or get a PR bond) and have a court date set *simplified version*. If you are going to hire a lawyer, do so before that time. But time IS of the essence. Good luck. |
