| Warrant Hello, My name is Jordan Antrim and im looking for some legal advice I have an old unpaid ticket that has now turned into a warrant The speeding ticket was for 1-10 over. I wanted to know what might happen if I turn myself in because I cannot afford it and I really need to get a job so I can get my license back. I live in the state of Oklahoma and I was pulled over in Oklahoma County. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Jordan Antrim |

| I do not practice in Oklahoma, so this can be taken only as a general observation. I assume that the "warrant" is an arrest warrant. It is probably for failure to appear on the earlier citation, maybe for failure to appear after several notices. You need to deal with this soon, because you are subject to being incarcerated at any time when a police officer encounters you. Even if you left your state, the problem would not go away. You could not obtain a driver's license elsewhere in light of what happened to You need to consult an attorney in your area who is competent with matters like this. If you cannot afford one, contact the local public defender and see if you qualify. Failure to appear is a common problem. If you come in voluntarily and deal with it the prosecutor and court will be much more likely to work out a solution that you can live with than if you get dragged in. Don't, however, try it without an attorney. You cannot rely on judges, prosecutors, police, and court staff to advise you of the best course of action. It is not their job to protect your best interests. The police are probably not actively looking for you. They spread a big net, so to speak, and just wait until you show up in it. At all costs, do not drive until this is resolved. Probably over 90% of the arrests made on warrants for failure to appear happen that way. |
