Divorce decree versus loan responsibility

I received notice this week from a car loan that is 90 days dilinquent, but it is a vehicle that was awarded to my ex-wife 5 years ago in our divorce settlement. She has made payments all this time up to the last 90 days. The divorce decree says that I am free and clear of all responisibility for this vehicle, but evidently she never refinanced. I have not heard from or spoken to her since that day in court. Now the finance company has filed a repossession notice for the vehicle and has reported negatively against my credit. What can I do to clear my credit report? Ford Motor credit says they do not care what my divorce papers say, I am responsible for the debt. My credit score has taken a huge hit for a debt that should not be mine.

Ford Motor Credit is correct. A divorce decree apparently instructed HER to refinance and she did not.

If you can, pay the debt to salvage your credit and then SUE her for the balance and inform the court she is in contempt of the order.

Sadly, it was your responsibility, in part, to make SURE your name was removed.

Unfortunate situation--but FORD is correct. The court cannot dimiss your responsibility but it can order HER to remove her name and she did not.

Good luck .
