Default Help with terminating a contract

Hi I entering into a financial agreement with company for a distant learning course, but after a year of trying to do it I want to cancel the contract because I can no longer do the course. I have tried to call them to ask them but they said that I wont be able to cancel the contract.

Is there no way I can cancel this contract it is for four years and i have already paid for 1 year. please any advice?

What school is this? I ask because many schools that are accredited are governed by specific rules and regulations. Is it an accredited school? I have never heard of an accredited school that requires you to stay enrolled in their school for four consecutive years. If you are paying for four years to go to school, make sure it is an accredited school.

What is the specific wording of the contract?

well it is not an actual school its home learning, in the contract it says you have 7 working days to cancel the financial agreement. The company is called ICS limited.

You need to consult with an attorney there---our laws in the US regarding licensure of schools, and accreditation are different from yours----I know accrediation laws in the Us, but have no idea regarding the laws in the UK.

Bottom line ( and Im sure hindsight is twenty twenty)----- but anything that REQUIRES you to sign up for something for four years cannot be a good idea. Lives change----rent leases are usually for a year---know why? life changes, people change. Signing up for something for four years without trying it first wasn't very wise.

Ask an attorney to go over the contract with you and see if he or she can find any grounds for invalidation of the contract. I am sure there are countless others who have been tricked, too. Next time, look for a school that meets your government standards for accreditation.
