Angry Can I be sued for an old bill ?

I've been getting many calls within 3 weeks from JC Christensen & Associates. The original Creditor sold my account to them and now they are seeking payment. I have told them in every phone conversation that I cannot pay them, I just moved back home, I have no job and it's been hard to find a job, They say I am unwilling to pay them, that I am lieing to them and they even harrass me about my Credit Report, Which I am very uncomfortable with. They should only be looking at my Bill for the other company. On top of that they are saying they will retain a lawyer against me, but are unwilling to say Who the lawyer is and will not send me their privacy policy act, nor did they take my complaint about harassment seriously. My old bill due to Interest over the years has accumulated to $2500, would They spend more money trying to sue me?

You don't say where you live---the law varies from state to state.

What you are referring to is junk debts these companies buy then try to collect. You need to check the statute of limitations on debts in your state then in writing tell them that pursuant to law such and such they are in violation of the law attempting to illegally collect a debt. I have done this before and received an abject letter of apology in return to my contacting them. First instruct them to stop calling. Secondly keep track of each time they call after being instructed not to do so. Then send them a letter stating what I said above. I bet the farm it their collections efforts stop.

Good luck.

I am located in Utah and for open-end accounts it's 4 years here. This account is creeping up to 3 years.
