Default an ex-boyfriends rights to a child

Hi. I am a little over 8 months pregnant and I was wonder about what rights the man who got me pregnant has/will have to the child . He has not taken any interest in going to my dr. appoints , elective 3d ultrasound or any parenting classes . In addtion to the when i first became pregnant he told me just to go to school and not to get a job because he was going to take care of everything , get a new place for us , ect . I didnt get a job because of this and i am currently in college . then when I was about 5 months pregnant he decided that he didnt want anything to do with , started complaining about my not having a job , though at this point i was noticably pregnant and could not find a job . We did not / have not and do not live togeather . About 2 months ago he decided to move back home with his parents (though he is 25 years old) about 45 minutes to an hour from where i live . I have tried to invole him . He will not answer my phone calls and only returns them at 11 o'clock at night. since he has haad no part in the pregnancy will he have any rights when the child is born ?

Not until he goes to court to establish paternity and file for custody/visitation. That's how it usually works if you were never married. If the parents were never married, once the child is born, (in most states) the mother is considered to have full custody until the father files in court. And, unless he's done something to harm the child (and you can prove it), the visitation and possibly joint legal custody would be granted to him. (By the way, the fact he is not helping out during the pregnancy will not affect this at all).

He might just be scared now. Once the baby is born he could come back and does have the right to do what I said above...
