Usury

I need some advise on how the state attorney general can assess interest and penalities on back child support when they were not a lender or provider of aid during my absence of paying the court ordered support. I am making payments now and with the economy has been, I was unemployed for over 10 months and the interest and penalities began to accumulate, even after I submitted notice as required to the AG's office of any and all changes to my living, and work status as they occur.

It was explained to me that the interest and penalities for non-payment are based on guidelines, how is this legal, since it subjects to me to a debt that I will never be able to pay off.

Angry Back Child Support

It's in the best interest of your children. Children cost money...alot of money and to be without for 10 months while you were unemployed had to have been tough. The laws are there to hopefully deter some parents from failing to pay child support altogether.

Cool

It's important to remember that "the law" is what the law says it is... The "fairness" of a law is only a discussion for you to have with the politicians that make the laws.

The legal system is just there to enforce what the law says, not decide if the law is right or not.
