a car pulled out in front of me, I lost my son.
I live in Maine...
This all started last Monday, October 20th. I was 21 weeks pregnant with my very healthy baby boy, Kody William. I went to the store in the morning, well never made it there. A 90 year old man pulled out directly in front of me while I was going 45mph. There was no avoiding the accident. He was trying to pull out to travel opposite of me, so I hit the side of his car, I had just enough time to swerve so I didn't hit his door. It would have killed him. He has been declared %100 at fault for the accident. The impact of the crash caused my water to break. Which is apparently pretty rare from what the doctors said, but it was a hard hit... My knees are bruised and swelling still... I still can't breath normally out of my right lung, and my neck still hurts. Going to the doctors again tomorrow. When my water broke, the doctors told me that Kody wouldn't survive. So I went home and waited to go into labor. The next day the doctors found out I had developed a serious infection in my uterus and I had to be induced immediately. I delivered my son early Wednesday morning. 12oz 10"4'.. a beautiful, tiny baby boy. He lived from 4:59am until 7:32am in my arms, and passed away peacefully. He was very obviously bruised, the doctor said from the accident. I never thought I could feel the way I do.. I am lost, heartbroken.. words can't even express what this has done to me. I miss my son. I will be meeting with my lawyer next week for the first time. I am 20 years old, I am married and have a beautiful 18 month old daughter who, thank god, was not in the car. I have never been in an accident before, and never had to deal with a lawyer before. I have no idea what to expect. Or what to do. Money will never replace my son, no matter how much... but I'd like to know what I should expect from this tragedy. And what I need to do... I have no idea what is going on right now.... please, if anyone has some answers for me, it would be so helpful. Thanks so much... -Kody and Kaedie's mommy.- |

Although I do not post on this forum publicly any longer for a variety of reasons, when I read your posting I felt I could help, not only from a legal standpoint, but also from a personal one since I, too, have had my life inexorably altered by the carelessness of other drivers who were 100% at fault.
Please, check your private message feature and I will be glad to provide you with the information that helped me after not only my accident in which I was critically injured at someone elses hand, but also the course of action I took when, last year, my husband of twenty years was a passenger in a work truck which was struck head on by a school bus, killing both he and his coworker in a fiery explosion at the hand of the careless bus driver, who was 100% at fault. Although it seems so small, please, accept my sorrow for your tragic and senseless loss. But, please comfort yourself knowing there is legal help available. Please check your messages. |
