check stop payment

Hi, I am new to the forum and was hoping someone could shed some light on an issue that has arised. I am a very small business owner who owns a cleaning company who currently lost a contract due to contractor accusing my company of not cleaning properly. He says he has complaint cards and other small issues. I have talked to the girls who work and they say there was definately no issues and we check after every cleaning and everything seemed fine. The contractor has lied about these issues. Well anyway long story short..the problem was the amount being paid so both of us sat and discussed it and came to a price. The check was written and given to us so we deposited it and made payroll. about 5 days later we get an email stating that there is a stop payment on the check and they will figure out what they will pay me...therefore causing bounced checks with no warning. Does anyone jkow the laws in michigan on all of this. Please help if someone knows..Thanks
