Class action for Independent Contractors?

A number of individuals from around the country contracted to perform small jobs for a Florida company. The company decided to close its doors without warning or notice in July 2008. The Independent Contractors have not been paid although their work was performed and accepted. Amounts owed range from $25 to $350 with the majority in the $150 range. Can the Independent Contractors, as a class, sue for payment? The amounts hardly justify individual Small Claims cases.
