Verbal Agreement with a Dentist

I needed impant, post and crown done by a dentist , went for consultation, and send a pre-certified letter to the insurance. after the letter was approved, the dentist told me the OUT OF POCKET maximum amount won't be more than $600. After all the procedures completed. I ended paying $681 to the dentist, and the insurance paid their portion amount. The dentist started to ask for more money, he wants an extra of $821, I told him we had a Verbal Agreement, but he's denying that.
What can I do, any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

First, you do comparison shopping.

Then you get it in writing.

An implant would cost $1000... even if they only used a local to numb the pain... about $3000 if you need twilight sedation.

These days, a post will cost what you were quoted.

A crown will cost about $950.

Dentists are in high demand because they KNOW they have you in pain and that it has to be fixed or your health will suffer. The simplest thing is just to have it pulled. THAT could cost $600 if it involves multiple roots and growth to the bone.

There are lower income states where the fee structure makes these costs seem inflated, but this is mid Illinois. I had an estimate for some work here at $11,000... and received another estimate in Lexington, KY for $6500. The local guy did the work for $6500 but changed my bite so that it cracked three caps. Didn't do a good job on anything. I know it was intentional.

Never go to a dentist who cheats on his wife. He cheats on other things too... and your mouth is not where you want him.

Verbal Agreement

Thanks for the reply, it makes a lot of sense what you told me, but the dentist is letting a Collection Agency after us, and file a summon in the civil court, I need some help with my Legal Right to present to the judge in the court, especially regarding the " Verbal Agreement " which he's denying now.
Thanks.

The Letter

Does the pre-certified letter happen to mention the approximate cost of the dental work? You might have him there. If not, file your answer and go to court and argue your case. The dentist, if he is not honest, probably sent you a first bill with the original charges on it, without the insurance payment crediting the account. If the original charges coincide with what you verbally agreed to, his subsequent "change of mind" might be the rope that hangs him. If he was smart enough to include the "additional" charges on the first bill, you might have a hard time fighting him, but if he thinks you are going to fight in court he may drop the whole thing, so by all means file your answer and state in your answer just what you said on this forum, but make sure your grammar is correct, judges appreciate to the point correct statements that save them time in the courtroom. Good luck

I was uncertain as to the answer of this question, so I took the liberty of actually asking a dentist who has been in the business for a very long time. His reply:

"The pre certification has doc's fees, and insurance payment...in writing."

Financial Agreement

Did you sign a financial agreement?????What's the pre-certification letter say? A lot depends on those two documents. Tell the collection agency you are disputing the bill and do so in writing within the 30 day time period to protect your credit.
